Frequently Asked Questions

**#Q1 Are your wigs already styled? Can I cut my wig?**

Yes. All wigs are pre-cut and styled based on the model. We advise personalising the style to suit your face shape and, if necessary, correcting the cut, especially the fringe. You can cut any style you desire. A little trim is usually hassle-free. However, if you are considering restyling or thinning your wig, we highly recommend consulting an experienced hairstylist.

**#Q2 Can I wear my wig immediately?**

Before wearing the wig, we recommend giving it a gentle brush, as it will have been packaged with a standard blow dry. The hair can be styled and blow-dried with a standard hairdryer, straighteners, or hairspray to fit the wig to your face shape.

**#Q3 What is the best way to store my wig?**

When not in use, store your wig on a mannequin head or a wig stand to avoid knotting and maintain the shape of the cap. This not only helps prevent tangling or flattening but also helps to maintain the wig's style. Ideally, store your wig in a clean, dry place away from dust and sources of heat or flame. If you do not have a wig stand, store your wig turned inside out in a shoebox or similar. We recommend keeping it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to preserve the colour and prevent accidental damage.

**#Q4 What are essential hair care tips for wigs?**

1. While our hair can be curled or straightened, it's best to avoid excessive use of hot curlers and flat irons, as this can significantly reduce its lifespan.

2. Always apply conditioner or hair oil to maintain its health.

3. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush to style wavy wigs.

4. It is best to avoid combing when wet; always start at the ends and work your way up to avoid breakage.

5. Blow-dry the hair rather than allowing it to air-dry. **Dry the hair with the weft opened. Keeping the hair wet for too long can increase stress on the delicate proteins that maintain its structure, leading to potential damage.**

**#Q5 How do I wash my wig?**

You must wash and care for your wig if you want it to last. Treat it with the same care you would give your own hair. Here’s a full step-by-step guide on how to care for your wig:

1. Begin by washing the hair with a mild shampoo.

2. Gently detangle the hair before washing; avoid rubbing or twisting it. We recommend using warm water for washing.

3. Soak the hair in warm water (no more than 35°C).

4. Apply mild shampoo and wash the hair.

5. Rinse the hair in the water.

6. Soak up excess water with a towel, apply conditioner for about 2 minutes, then rinse in clean water.

7. Rinse again in a basin of clean water.

8. Squeeze the hair gently to remove excess water.

9. Soak up any remaining water with a towel.

**#Q6 How often should I wash my wigs?**

We advise washing your wig once every seven days of wear, but more often if your lifestyle or environment requires it. As a rule of thumb, if the hair tips don’t move freely, it’s time to wash the wig.

**#Q7 Can I colour or dye my wig?**

Only wigs that are made from 100% human hair can be coloured. Wigs are made from the latest technology heat-styleable hair-like fibre; however, you cannot dye them. Most wigs come in a variety of colours, reducing the need for additional colouring. While synthetic hair cannot be dyed, human hair wigs can be. Being made of natural hair, you can dye a wig, though this should only be done by an experienced hair professional. If you wish to colour your wig, we recommend contacting an authorised salon. It is a delicate process that should be handled by a hair professional exclusively. Colouring should always be done from light to darker tones. Avoid discolouration, as this can cause permanent damage to the hair (such as dryness, brittleness, or frizziness). Remember that the hair has already undergone a dyeing process, albeit a gentle one, so please take care.

**#Q8 How to order a wig that can be dyed by yourself?**

If you want to re-dye a wig at home, please order a natural colour (natural black) or a wig that has not been dyed. Platinum blonde is another option if you would like to dye it to your desired shade.

Please note that colour jet black cannot be dyed; do not bleach your jet black hair. Bright colours can be dyed to darker shades, but dark colours cannot be dyed to bright colours.

**#Q9 Can I perm my wig?**

Darker hair models with intact cuticles can be permed. Perming should be avoided for blonde hair, as it is likely to lighten the hair. If you intend to perm your wig, choose a darker tone than your desired final colour. We do not advise doing this yourself; it is best done at your nearest authorised salon. Bear in mind that any chemical treatments will reduce the length of the hair.

**#Q10 How do I measure the length of a wig correctly?**

To measure the length of a wig accurately, start at the crown:

Set Up the Wig: Place the wig on a wig head or a flat surface to keep it stable. Using a soft measuring tape, locate the crown of the wig, which is the highest point where you will begin your measurement.

Measure Downwards:

For straight wigs, hold the measuring tape vertically and measure from the crown straight down to the tips of the hair.

For curly wigs, gently pull the curls straight to determine their full length. Then, measure from the crown straight down to the tips in the stretched position. This method ensures you get a more accurate measurement since curly hair appears shorter when in its natural curl pattern.

**#Q11 How do I know if a wig will fit?**

Many wigs come in petite, average, and large sizes. All of our wigs feature unisex sizing and fit head circumferences of up to 23.5 inches. Our wigs are adjustable using the hooks at the nape of the neck to ensure a comfortable fit. Average size wigs tend to fit about 95% of people. If you’re unsure, measure the circumference around the widest part of your head; if it's under 24 inches, you will find all our wigs comfortable.

**#Q12 How do I choose the right style of wig?**

A great technique for this is to know your face shape!

**#Q13 How do I choose the right colour of wig?**

If you have never worn a wig before, we recommend choosing a colour that is most similar to your natural hair colour. To achieve a natural look, stick to something close to your natural colour or a shade that complements your skin tone. However, don’t be afraid to experiment; you may discover a look that suits you!

**#Q14 What’s a lace front wig? Full lace wig?**

Lace front wigs create the illusion of a natural hairline and can be styled away from the face. The sheer lace material can be trimmed to fit your own hairline, achieving an incredibly realistic and natural look.

- **Lace Front Wig**: A "lace front wig" or "front lace wig" only has lace at the front. It is made using a combination of handwork and machine production.

- **Full Lace Wig**: "Full lace wigs" are designed with the entire cap made from lace, including lace around the perimeter. They are made entirely by hand and may include straps and combs for added security.

**#Q15 Will the hairline on the lace wig have a natural look?**

Yes, when worn correctly, lace wigs create a natural hairline, resembling hair growing from your scalp. For custom orders, we recommend including baby hairs around the front and perimeter for a more natural look.

**#Q16 What Does Raw Hair Mean?**

Raw hair refers to what is commonly understood as virgin hair. However, due to the vast array of hair types available in the market, the term “raw” has emerged to distinguish true virgin hair from chemically treated or processed alternatives. Authentic virgin "raw" hair is typically offered in three primary textures: straight, wavy, and curly, whereas any other variations have been subject to some form of processing.

**#Q17 Can I have a customised wig made for me by WIGZOTIC?**

Yes, we offer customised wig options to cater to your unique style and preferences. You can also send us a picture of the hairstyle you want if you don’t see your desired design here. Please contact our customer support for details: support@wigzotic.co.uk.

**#Q18 The process of customising a full lace wig.**

WIGZOTIC aims to create custom full lace human hair wigs that are 100% hand-tied. Due to the high skill involved and to ensure quality, a customised full lace wig requires 10-15 working days. If a silk top or double monofilament is requested, it will take 10-20 working days to complete.

**#Q19 Which hair products can I use on my wigs?**

Wigs do not receive nourishment from the scalp, so they require more care than natural hair. Careful maintenance is essential. Common shampoos and conditioners should not be used; instead, we recommend protein-rich products that compensate for the lack of nourishment.

**#Q20 Are the online colour samples realistic?**

It is important to note that the colour on the screen may not perfectly reproduce the actual colour. Each monitor varies in design, colour calibration, and brightness; for example, some screens may make images appear clearer or warmer. Additionally, hair colour can change slightly under different lighting conditions.

**Notice Before Purchase**: Please be aware that due to variations in lighting, angles, and equipment during photography, the actual product may display slight colour differences compared to online images, particularly for coloured wigs.

**#Q21 Can I sleep with my wig?**

Yes, it is possible to sleep in a wig or toupee, but note this may cause them to wear out more quickly due to increased use (worn 24 hours instead of 12) and friction against the pillow.

If you wish to sleep in your wig, we suggest using a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction. For long-haired wigs, we recommend tying the hair up to prevent tangling during the night.

**#Q22 Can I shower or swim wearing my wig?**

Even though many clients don’t follow this advice, we suggest not swimming in your wig. Chlorinated or salt water can damage and fade the hair, especially combined with sun exposure. Swimming can also cause the wig to absorb water, making it heavier and causing the cap to lose shape. We recommend washing the wig after swimming, but exercising with your wig is fine. For regular swimmers, consider synthetic wigs designed to repel water.

**#Q23 Why is it important to have more than one wig?**

We suggest keeping at least two wigs on hand at all times. This helps extend their lifespan, as a wig will last longer if it isn't worn every day. There may be times when you need a substitute when another is being washed or repaired. Just as you would have multiple outfits, we recommend having at least two wigs available—one styled straight and the other curly—to reduce stress on your wigs.

**#Q24 Do you provide a guarantee on your wigs?**

Yes, we guarantee the wig for up to three months after purchase because we trust the quality of our materials and craftsmanship. However, the guarantee is only valid if you follow the use and maintenance guidelines.

**#Q25 How long do wigs last?**

The lifespan of a wig depends primarily on care. With correct maintenance, a wig can last up to two years. If handled properly, a wig should last about six months before needing hair added or repairing. Daily use can result in a lifespan of three to six months before repairs or additional hair are needed.

Factors such as the use of styling tools or sleeping with the wig on can accelerate wear. Chemical processes, like perming and dyeing, will also reduce a wig's lifespan. The lifespan also depends on the type of wig cap and the quality of hair used in its construction. Handmade wigs (like full lace wigs) typically don’t last as long as machine-made wigs. Hair loss is natural with this type of wig, as knots can come undone over time, and even with good maintenance, handmade wigs will generally need to be thickened after the first 9-12 months.

**#Q26 Can I curl or straighten my wig?**

Consider human hair wigs for the ultimate styling versatility, as you can curl or straighten them just like your own hair.

**#Q27 What are the different types of wig caps?**

Ongoing innovation in technology has led to increasingly wearable and comfortable wigs. The base of any wig is called a cap, where the hair is attached using various techniques to achieve different looks. Most wigs have hair attached in 'wefts', which are strips of hair sewn together. Others are hand-tied for more natural movement. For styles swept away from the face, lace front wigs are the best option.

**#Q28 How do I put on a wig?**

After removing your wig from the box, take off the protective net (if present) and give it a good shake. If it requires customisation (like trimming a lace front), consult a wig specialist.

If you have your own hair, gather it back and up. A great trick is to separate it into two sections on each side, twisting the hair to lay flat. You may use pins, braids, or a wig cap to keep it secure.

Hold your wig at the sides (ear tabs) and, starting at the front, place it at your natural hairline, sliding it towards the nape of your neck. Adjust as needed, ensuring the front edge is just over your natural hairline. Use ear tabs to centre it, and adjust hooks at the nape for comfort. If handling a lace front wig, take care not to tug on the lace.

Don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect right away; just start styling!

**#Q29 What are bleached knots?**

When dark hair is tied to the base of a lace wig, knots can create a dark dot on the skin, especially with lace bases. Bleached knots help create the illusion that hair is growing directly from the scalp.

**#Q30 What does density refer to?**

Density refers to how thick the hair is. Most women achieve a natural appearance with light to medium density, while your choice depends on your styling preferences.

WIGZOTIC offers a variety of wig density options:

- 130% Density: Light and natural-looking

- 150% Density: Most realistic and easy to manage

- 180% Density: Thicker and fuller

- 210% Density: Very thick and great for photoshoots

Although you may think a very thick wig is desirable, it may not be for everyone, as maintenance will be higher. This is why we offer a wide range of thickness options for our human hair wigs.

**#Q31 What is the difference between Swiss lace and French lace?**

Swiss lace is finer and softer than French lace, offering a better and more natural appearance. French lace is slightly thicker and more durable, but both can be dyed to match different skin tones.

**#Q32 Do I have to wear a wig cap with the wig?**

No, you do not need to wear a wig cap under the wig. You can part your own hair at the same spot as your wig for an enhanced look.

**#Q33 Will my wig blow off?**

Don't believe what you see in films. Our wigs are fully adjustable with four internal comb slides for an easy, secure, and confident fit.

**#Q33 What is a silk top?**

A silk top is a feature on some wigs that includes a layer of silk fabric on the top front of the cap, concealing the knots where the hair is attached. This design creates a seamless look that resembles natural hair growth, giving the appearance that the hair is growing directly from the scalp. Silk fabric is softer and more comfortable, making these wigs ideal for extended wear, especially for individuals with sensitive scalps due to medical treatments. Additionally, silk tops are breathable and often come with adjustable straps, ensuring a secure fit for those experiencing changes in head size or shape from hair loss.
